First Friends has been a part of the Salem community for over 200 years and at their current location since 1963. Our average Sunday morning attendance is 250. The mission statement of the church is, “Gather in Community, Grow in Christ, Go into the World.” First Friends is passionate about being a vibrant community within which people grow in their knowledge and experience of Jesus and encourage others to do the same. About the Role

This role will have three primary areas of focus: connection, integration, and promotion. The person in this role, in conjunction with our ministry team, office support personnel, and volunteers, will oversee the welcoming of visitors on Sunday mornings, make meaningful connections with visitors upon follow-up, encourage deeper connections between the people and the ministry/mission of FFC, and ensure that events and activities are promoted to the appropriate audiences in the most effective ways.

Responsibilities

Connection

  • Create a comprehensive, long-term system of welcome, hospitality, and connection for Sunday morning visitors.
  • Implement, evaluate, maintain, and improve this system as needed.
  • Seek to acquaint visitors with the ministry and mission of the church and advise them on “next steps” to become better connected within the community of FFC.

Integration

  • Evaluate the level of connection between the people of FFC and our existing ministries, missional opportunities, and discipleship-focused small groups.
  • Create and implement strategies and processes for improving these connections, suggesting new pathways for connections as needed.
  • Develop a system for emphasizing the importance of the Tables of Discipleship, offering suggestions for their integration, and providing an outlet for people to share meaningful ways through which they approach the Tables.

Promotion

  • Create and implement a system that will provide for the ongoing organization of the “promotional rhythm” of events and activities at FFC.
  • With the ministry and office teams, plan the prioritization and execution of the promotion of events and activities on a weekly basis through several outlets (bulletin, scrolling slides, sign, website, app, social media, email).
  • Use some tools of promotion directly while making suggestions for the use of other tools.

Traits, Qualities, and Expectations

  • The Director will regularly be in contact with people face-to-face, over the phone, and through messaging platforms, and therefore needs to be friendly, personable, a good communicator, an excellent listener, and take joy in meeting new people.
  • The Director needs to be well-organized, self-motivated, and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Occasional, brief public speaking should be expected.
  • Familiarity with basic technology (web browser, email, messaging, Microsoft/Google software, social media) is required.
  • The ability to learn new software systems will be required (with the church providing the necessary training).
  • Prior ministry experience, whether paid or volunteer, is preferred but not required.
