When Abraham is told to respond to God’s offer of covenant relationship, in addition to walking faithfully and blamelessly, he is told to enact the “sign” of the covenant through the act of circumcision. For generations, this “dividing line” helped the Israelite people understand who was in, and who was out. Unfortunately, it became a way to segregate the people of God from the world they were called to bless. In the New Testament, this issue of circumcision quickly became a point of contention in the young Christian movement.

In this series, Called to Cross Over, we will be studying the life of Abraham. This imperfect patriarch was a person called to “cross over” in many ways. The word “Hebrew” is even linguistically tied to the idea of “crossing over” from one side to another. God’s dealing with mankind reaches a “crossing over” point in the events of Abraham’s life. As you listen to these sermons, consider how God is speaking to you and leading you and inviting you to “cross over” into a deeper relationship with him.
